Don't Be Salty!

Updated: Apr 28, 2020

The “Salty Donut” in Miami is more than just a donut/coffee shop that makes over the top, drool worthy, and viral/Instagram donuts. Founded in 2015 by Andy Rodriguez & Amanda Pizarro, Salty Donut was actually just an Aljoa camper across the street from what now is the Wynwood location. It is Miami’s first artisanal donut shop that prides itself on being a “family-owned, artisan donut shop that focuses on chef-made, small-batch, craft donuts that rotate based on seasonality.”. This shop only uses the highest quality ingredients, and is completely against anything artificial. So, if that doesn't sound appealing to you, then I'm not sure what will. They serve up cake and yeast style donuts. The yeast style is a 24 hour recipe and it leaves the donut fluffy, light, and thick all at the same time. Their cake donuts tend to be more crunchy on the outside, but also more moist and dense on the inside. Nonetheless, they are both worthy enough to be on my list of top 10 donut shops in the nation. On top of the donuts being amazing, they serve Intelligentsia Coffee, which is arguably some of the best coffee I've ever had. So if a family owned, seasonally changing menu/shop that is against any artificial isn't for you, I'm not sure this shop is for you. But for those of you who like the sound of that, you are all in luck if you are in Miami. This is because they are running 2 locations at the moment. One is in Wynwood and the other is in South Beach. Something tells me that the expansion is going to continue with their growing popularity around the USA, so it will be interesting to see what they make out of all of this recognition.

Things to note: it gets busy AF which seems to me every single day, so do not come late in the day expecting full inventory. Sell outs happen more often than not, so prioritize your day accordingly. This place is a must stop when visiting Miami.
