I Smuckin' Love You

Updated: Jun 30, 2019

You can never go wrong when ordering a breakfast sandwich...What you can go wrong with is where you order it. Don't worry, as always, we're here to help.

Morning, noon or night, a breakfast sandwich is always a delight and meant to be loved at any hour of the day. Our eatery of choice for a slammin' Sunday morning sammy, is in the historical hall of Reading Terminal Market.

It's not about the jelly

Smucker’s Quality Meats and Grill has everything crunchy, cheesy and meaty you could desire. No, this isn’t the famous Smucker’s you find on the shelves in your local grocery store, this is the Grill at Smucker’s operating in the nation’s oldest farmer’s market, the Reading Terminal Market, and it’s pretty incredible.

Let’s start off with a little history on the greatest public market in the country, Reading Terminal Market. The market is located in Philadelphia, PA and was established in 1893. It is famous for housing a variety of flavors and experiences for visitors, including Amish products straight from Lancaster county, fresh produce, meat, fish and dairy stands, America’s oldest ice cream company, Cajun flare, Philly’s best ‘go to’ fresh and hand-made donut shop, soap and book shops, a Down Home Diner, BBQ chicken, juice bars, delis, fresh flower stands, legendary Italian sandwiches, tons of cheese, the best breakfast sandwiches (*cough* Smuckers *cough*,) cheesesteaks on cheesesteaks on cheesesteaks, Middle Eastern specialties, a chocolate company, Thai markets and so much more. Basically there is something for everyone at this market on Arch Street and North 12th Street.

Alissa is a die-hard fan of jelly. In fact, she has a tasty family secret for making breakfast sandwiches extra delicious. She adds jelly to the layers of toast, egg and cheese. When she stumbled upon Smucker’s in Reading Terminal Market, she thought she had hit the jackpot of jelly. She quickly came to learn this market stand was not affiliated with the Smucker’s jam and jellies we all know and love, but that it was the stand of all breakfast stands. Just about every time we are in the City of Brotherly Love, we have to make a pit stop at Smucker’s Grill. In the picture above, you’ll see the Liss BEC sandwich (named by Mike,) which is stacked with bacon, egg and cheese and topped off with jelly in between the layers of flavor.

The Grill at Smucker’s is known for “fresh meats and food from the Amish country” and was started in 2009 by Moses Smucker. Since then, Smucker’s Grill has been serving up breakfast specialties all day from Monday to Saturday. Fun fact: Mr. Smucker’s favorite sandwich is the pot roast beef sandwich. We haven’t tried it yet since we are just so addicted to the breakfast sandwiches, but it is on our list!

We have to share our favorite things about the Smucker’s breakfast sandwiches. Each breakfast sandwich has seasoned eggs and there is an extensively large array of cheeses and meats to choose from when you place your order. However, if you are in the mood for something other than breakfast, the Smucker’s menu offers wraps, chicken cutlets, hot dogs, French fries, BLTs and more along with locally made, cane sugar-sweetened Reading Draft soda in classic flavors. Plus Smucker’s has a meat stand on the opposite side of the breakfast counter where you can order fresh meats from Pennsylvania butchers to take home with you.

We smuckin’ love Smuckers. If you’re in the market for a good, flavorful and homemade breakfast sandwich to start off your morning, we suggest heading over to Reading Terminal Market and visiting Smucker’s Quality Meats and Grill.
