It's no secret anymore. Tucked away In South Philadelphia, is one of the greatest BBQ spots in the nation: "Mike's BBQ". At the corner of South 11th Street and Morris, magic is created. There is a team of about 10 people and a smoker inside a tiny building, and they pump out (at the moment), the most popular food in the city. Mike's BBQ operates on a wild schedule: Wednesday - Sunday 12 PM - 6 PM (or sell out). That basically means sell out, because all this team does is sell out. It's due to magic in the kitchen, it's magic within the ambiance, and it's the love and atmosphere that makes Mike's so special. Mike sells out daily, and for very good reason. This food is GREAT. A line usually starts up before open, and it's a constant flow of traffic until that sell out point hits. Specials come and go daily on the menu here, which keeps things rotating and even more interesting. If you want ribs, cornbread, beans, brisket, wings, or anything else bbq, this place is for you.
Mike's BBQ is all about setting up that "come to my backyard bbq and eat" feeling. You pick that up as soon as you walk in. This man and his staff care about your happiness, and that makes it all that much better. If you're reading this then you've probably seen it through my page a bunch of times, and thats because I am a regular. It's that special, and I am more than grateful to have a spot like this in our city. Something else worth noting, the "brisket cheesesteak" is one of the greatest sandwiches I have ever eaten, and needs to be put on your list of "musts" ASAP.
