The Flavor Of Nashville

Updated: Jan 17, 2019

Started by the Baldwin family in 1961, these "uncommonly good pancakes" are well worth standing in line for.

Five flavorful mid-size pancakes topped off with a heaping of mini chocolate chips and powdered sugar from the famous kitchen of the Pancake Pantry in good ol' Nashville. Still wondering why a country singer hasn't written a song about pancakes yet...? SAME.

The sweet sound of...pancakes

Stopping at the famous Pancake Pantry was one of the first things on our "to do" list when we visited America's Music City. I remember it like it was yesterday...It was a bright and beautiful day as we stepped out of our Uber. We were so looking forward to having a serving of the pancakes everyone told us we must have when all of a sudden, we saw it. The dreaded "wrapped around the building line." We had heard this place was a "must visit" during our Nashville trip, but this lengthy 9AM line was making us want to cross the street to eat at the fried chicken place instead. But knowing this history of this Nashville traditional restaurant, we decided to stick out the wait for the Chocolate Chip Pancakes we've seen all over Instagram. Man was it worth it. As soon as you step foot into the over 50-year-old restaurant, you are overtaken by the sweet smell of pancakes and syrup. The Pancake Pantry provides a homey feel with an open kitchen and a staff of friendly faces. But let me get to the point, once we took a bite out of the pancakes, we were ready to order another place. Plus, The Pancake Pantry's homemade syrup was so damn good on those pancakes, you could pretty much drink it.

The Pancake Pantry has been built from the ground up by a family who just wanted to serve good flapjacks in a friendly and familiar environment. The delicious homemade pancake and syrup recipe remains a secret, but what we do know is that The Pancake Pantry is well worth the trip!
