“YOOOO, Adrian”

Updated: Apr 28, 2020

Did I get that quote right? Despite me not watching even one second of any Rocky movie, I can still tell you that the fictional character is a champion of Philadelphia held near and dear to so many locals here in the city. That too can be said for the newly re-located, “Angelo’s Pizzeria”, of South Philadelphia. This place started out in Haddonfield, New Jersey, and was a staple in that area for 5 years. Flooding and building issues led to a shutdown, and a need to relocate. Luckily for us, the South Philly native found his way back home, and was able to reopen in the beginning on 2019 in the old Sarcone’s Deli building. I'll be blunt, Danny DiGiampietro (owner) produces the greatest pizza in this city, along with possibly, the greatest sandwiches in or around Philadelphia. This really isn't an opinion, it’s straight facts. Everything is made fresh daily, and the place doesn't even have a refrigerator or freezer (aside for the drink cooler). Fresh veggies, fresh meat, fresh cheese, you name it, its fresh. There is a certain type of nostalgia you get when you bite into that food. First off, it is huge. Everything you order is massive in size. You can literally taste the love that the team puts into everything that comes out of that kitchen. It’s love, it’s care, it’s preparation, and it’s culinary genius and honesty that leads to the incredible success of this business. It’s also family, and what I mean by that is the feeling of friendship, or bonding you get when the whole team makes you feel at home each and every time you're there, no matter how packed it is. Speaking of packed, it gets PACKED. There is no seating inside, aside from a counter that wraps around the front of the place, so get there and claim your spot early. I guess that it’s technically considered takeout, but everyone is more than welcome to eat. The place is in high demands right now so get there and order quickly. The hours are as followed:

Some things worth noting it’s hard to park in or near the Italian Market area, so just go park in the Rite Aid parking lot 3 blocks away. Oh yeah, there are no phones and no delivery service, and rightfully so because it only takes away from the feel and experience of the shop and food itself. Sellouts do happen daily, so don’t wait until last minute. Planning on hitting this place at primetime hours like lunch or dinner, plan to wait. However, the wait is well worth it. One more pro tip, when Danny makes his bread(opposed to Sarcone’s 2 buildings down), you go and get his bread.
